Purpose of the Scholarship

The Buist Academy Foundation Legacy Scholarship is intended to recognize graduating seniors who have demonstrated commitment to their education, their school community, and service to others. The scholarship supports students as they pursue post-secondary education and honors the positive influence Buist Academy has had on their academic journey and community engagement.

This scholarship aims to celebrate students who embody the values of curiosity, community engagement, and appreciation for the experiences and communities that have shaped their growth and learning.

Scholarship Award

  • Award Type: One-time, non-renewable scholarship

  • Award Amount: ($1,000)

  • Payment Method: Paid directly to the student’s post-secondary institution upon proof of enrollment

  • Use of Funds: Tuition, required fees, books, or educational expenses

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Graduating Senior

    • Must be a graduating senior in the current academic year.

  2. Buist Academy Attendance

    • Must have attended Buist Academy for at least three full academic years.

  3. Good Standing

    • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

  4. Post-Secondary Enrollment

    • Must plan to attend a post-secondary institution in the upcoming academic year, including:

      • College or university

      • Community college

      • Technical or vocational program

      • Accredited training program

  5. Community Service Requirement

    • Must have completed a minimum of 5 documented hours of community service during the current school year.

Applicants must submit the following materials:

Completed Application Form

Basic student information including:

  • Name

  • Contact information

  • Post-secondary institution plans

  • Length of time attending Buist Academy

Community Service Documentation

Proof of at least 5 hours of community service completed during the current school year, verified by an adult supervisor or organization.

Handwritten Student Essay

Applicants must submit a handwritten essay of at least 500 words that answers the following prompt:

Essay Prompt:

Describe the positive impact Buist Academy has had on you and the community around you. Reflect on how your experiences at Buist shaped who you are today and how you intend to carry yourself forward in the future?

Essay Requirements:

  • Minimum 500 words

  • Must be handwritten by the student

  • Must reflect the student’s authentic voice and personal experience
