Legacy Scholarship Announcement
The Buist Academy Foundation Legacy Scholarship recognizes graduating seniors who reflect the values of curiosity, community engagement, and appreciation for the experiences and communities that have shaped their growth and learning.
This one-time, non-renewable scholarship supports a graduating student as they continue their educational journey after high school.
Scholarship Award
One-time, non-renewable scholarship award
Amount: $1,000 (one thousand dollars)
Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s accredited post-secondary institution and may be used only for qualified educational expenses (tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction)
If the recipient does not enroll at an accredited institution within twelve (12) months of the award date, or if funds are not used for qualified educational expenses, the award shall be forfeited and any funds disbursed shall be returned to the Buist Academy Foundation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Be a graduating high school senior
Have attended Buist Academy for at least three (3) consecutive years
Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
Plan to enroll at an accredited post-secondary institution (college, university, community college, or vocational/technical program)
Have completed at least five (5) hours of documented community service during the current school year
Selection Criteria
Recipients are selected by a Scholarship Committee using objective, nondiscriminatory criteria, including academic standing, community engagement, the quality and authenticity of the applicant’s essay, and demonstrated alignment with the Foundation’s application guidelines.
Selection is not based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal or state law
Application Requirements
Students must submit:
Completed and signed application form (including all certifications and consents)
Proof of community service hours (signed letter, log, or verification form from organization)
Handwritten essay of 500 or more words responding to the prompt below
Acceptance letter or enrollment documentation from the post-secondary institution (may be submitted after award notification, but required prior to disbursement)

Reflect on how your community service and time at Buist has shaped who you are and how you hope to carry those experiences forward in your future.
Application Deadline & Submission
Completed applications must be received no later than May 1st. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.

Notification & Disbursement
All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision by email no later than thirty (30) days after the deadline.
The recipient must provide proof of enrollment before funds are disbursed.
Funds will be paid directly to the institution’s bursar or financial aid office.
The recipient agrees to provide written confirmation of receipt and use of funds upon request, which the Foundation may retain for record-keeping required under IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47.
