The evening was a big success. Numbers are still being tallied, so we don’t have the final amount raised as of yet. But a big hand goes out to co-chairs Beth Simmons and Cappi Wilborn and their vast team of volunteers who  have been tirelessly working since last summer, putting this night together.

Spring is on its way, and with it comes tennis season. Buist will once again participate in the Tri-County Elementary and Middle League tennis season.

Teams will be organized based on ability and grade levels. In order to tryout for the Buist Team, you must have previous match play experience. This experience should include: competition against other players your age, “overhead” serving from the base line, and keeping track of your own scoring.

The team coaches will schedule practice. It is usually just one day a week, often on Sunday afternoon at the Charleston Tennis Center. For those of you that are just beginning, or may have not played in a while, you may want to take some lessons at one of the many facilities in addition to our weekly practice.

Match play will start around the second week of March. The regular season last six weeks, with a play-off tournament after that. The entire season is usually finished by the second week of May.

Buist Academy Foundation Auction 2010

We are gearing up for another sensational evening of dinner, drinks and fun. Planning is well underway, but we are still seeking volunteers in every area and welcome your involvement.

In previous years, auction proceeds have been used to purchase technology equipment, to supplement the art, music, library and physical education programs, and to contribute toward the purchase of the playground equipment. This year, the money raised will support expansion of the esteemed International Baccalaureate Program and the purchase of critically needed classroom computers.

10 for 10 by 2010

10 for 10 by 2010 is this year’s Campaign for Buist, annual fund drive.  We are asking every family to pledge $10 for each of the ten months their children will be in school and make their gift by the start of 2010.

The annual fund drive, along with the Auction, will be the two fundraising efforts of the Buist Foundation for the 2009-10 academic year.  The Foundation provides funds for a range of projects and activities in support of excellence in learning and quality of life at Buist Academy.  Buist’s continued participation in the International Baccalaureate program is made possible by ongoing support from the Foundation.  The recent installation of classroom ’smart boards’ and carpet replacement in several classrooms was made possible through funding from the foundation.

This year year, 60% of the money raised through 10 for 10 by 2010 supports the annual costs of the International Baccalaureate program and special projects.  The next 35% of the money raised will go to building the Foundation’s endowment to support student and faculty enrichment projects.  The remaining 5% will cover administrative costs.

We know the value our children and our families receive from an education at Buist.  Together we can help Buist become an even better place for our children to learn and grow.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM TICKET SALES ATTRIBUTED TO BUIST ACADEMY WILL GO TO THE BUIST ACADEMY FOUNDATION. If you can sell ten weekly passes for $30 each, the Buist Academy Foundation will receive $300. As an incentive, the Buist Academy Foundation has agreed to pay the responsible sales person $5.00 for each $30 weekly pass sold. If you sell 10 passes, that’s $50 to you. Just make sure your buyers indicate Buist Academy as the selected charity and you as the sales representative.

The buzz is heating up for this event, so go out and sell to your golf enthusiast friends and relatives.
